What is Leadership Burbank?

Leadership Burbank is a community-based organization that offers a nine-month leadership professional development program for people who live, work, or have a significant investment in Burbank.

Through a hands-on curriculum, leaders and emerging leaders have the opportunity to enhance their personal and professional skills, gain a deeper understanding of community dynamics, and build a network of colleagues and associates throughout our city.

It is hoped that graduates will use the insights and contacts they develop through this program to enhance performance in their current endeavors and to enrich the community by involvement with local civic, government, business, faith and/or nonprofit groups.

Leadership Burbank is a 501(c)3 organization. Tax ID #91-2168014.

Who founded Leadership Burbank?

Leadership Burbank was founded by the Burbank Chamber of Commerce, the City of Burbank, the Burbank Unified School District, and Woodbury University.

Who should apply?

Leadership Burbank seeks the commitment of individuals interested in the enhancement of community life in Burbank, especially those interested in greater leadership responsibility for the future benefit of the community.

Participants in Leadership Burbank should:

  • Live, work, or have a demonstrable vested interest in Burbank
  • Possess a genuine interest in pursuing key volunteer, public office, board, or commission roles
  • Embrace high standards of personal integrity, leadership, and a strong commitment to solving community challenges
  • Promise to fulfill the time commitments necessary to complete the program
  • Not be a candidate for public office at the time of the application or class

What are the benefits of participating?

Personal and professional transformation through a deeper understanding of your leadership and communication styles, strengths, passions and values; leadership and team building tools and techniques to make you a more effective leader and manager, including experience with and understanding of diverse cultural perspectives and communication styles; a deeper appreciation of community resources, governance, assets, and challenges, providing a foundation and inspiration for effective community involvement; access to community leaders and relationships with a diverse network of alumni; opportunities and support for increased community engagement; and continuing personal and professional development through Leadership Burbank Alumni Association.

What kind of time commitment is involved outside of the classwork?

The class will be asked to develop and execute a class service project that will have a positive affect on the Burbank community. Class members will be asked to spend some outside time working on the class project, together and/or independently.

What is the cost and what does it cover?

Tuition for the 2022-2023 class is $2,000 per student and covers professional facilitation, all program materials, catered meals for all sessions, and culminates in a graduation ceremony in May.

Are tuition scholarships available?

Leadership Burbank is committed to the belief that no qualified applicant should be excluded based on the inability to pay. A limited number of partial financial scholarships are available based on demonstrated financial need and availability of funds. Sponsors are needed to provide scholarships for individuals who need financial assistance, and to maintain affordable tuition in this program.
