The Need
The Leadership Burbank Class of 2019 focused on finding a meaningful project that was going to help to enhance the city. As they researched Burbank’s immediate needs, they were disheartened to learn about the shortage of infant care facilities. Anyone who has been in need of this service knows how critical it is to find the right environment for their child’s development. Even within their class, students began to share how the shortage of infant centers directly impacted their own families and their ability to return back to work.
After continuing to do research the class was shocked to find out that only 2-3 out of every 100 infants in Los Angeles County are accommodated by infant centers, and in Burbank average wait lists are typically two years. This means that many young families are forced to sign up for a wait list prior to the birth of their child and may continue to be on that list until their child ages out of the program.
The Project
Infant Care Room #2 at the Burbank YMCA
The Leadership Burbank Class of 2019 has decided to partner with the YMCA to build a 2nd infant center on their campus. The YMCA’s current infant center serves 10 children between the ages of 0-18mos. and has a wait list of 2 years. The new infant center that will be built will be designed to serve 12 additional children ages 12-18 mos. in a brand new space.
You can play a role in their success in many ways, including:
- Making a monetary donation to help pay for furniture, equipment, and supplies in the new center
- Providing in-kind donations of the above items (a YMCA approved list of such items will be available upon request)
- Sponsoring the “Burbank Babies Shower” event on Thursday, March 21st
Any contribution goes a long way in helping our Burbank families and children in need.
